Shiatsu is a Japanese form of therapeutic bodywork based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Translated literally Shiatsu means finger pressure. Thumbs, palms, elbows and knees are also used. It is a floor-based practice on a futon mattress with clients wearing loose comfortable clothing. Bodyweight, pressure and stretching along the meridians (energy channels) of the body moves blood and ki (energy), releases stagnation and strengthens the body to heal. It is deeply relaxing, stimulates circulation, relieves tension, fatigue and stiffness.
