April Newsletter - pregnancy and babies

Hi Everyone,

As a team of healthcare providers, offering Osteopathy, Naturopathy and Massage, we are committed to combining our knowledge and skills to cover all aspects of your healthcare, and this month we're focussing on pregnancy and babies. Making sure that the body is functioning well is very important for conception, pregnancy and labour to progress with as few symptoms as possible. 📷 Most important is the sacrum, coccyx and lumbar vertebrae. All of the pelvic organs such as the uterus get their nerve and blood supply from these areas of the spine. The presence of any strain here can have effects and it is important that your Osteopath gets a chance to improve their function prior to labour. We also recommend pregnancy massage to some mums which is so therapeutic for the mum, who by this point has undergone such massive body changes that everything aches! Then the job of caring for a new baby can also place enormous strain on the back. Breast-feeding, lifting car capsules and prams, carrying your baby and reaching over the cot can put extra strain on your back. After birth, osteopathic treatment can attend to back and neck pain, restore balance in the pelvic region and refer to specialist pelvic floor physiotherapists for advice on strengthening exercises for the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor. We also encourage Mums to bring in Bub for a check in their first few weeks to help balance any trauma caused during the labour. Paediatric osteopathy uses very gentle, non adjustive, non-mechanised technique to relax babies post birth. The most common concerns we see are reflux, feeding, latching, sleeping and winding issues.

To offer a wider support to mums and bubs we are offering a specialised pregnancy and paediatric clinic every second Saturday, starting after easter. Please call to enquire how we can help you, or someone you know.

My husband recently shared with me that he felt that one of the greatest things in life is to raise a family. For him, although it requires much of his time, effort, energy and care, it is an opportunity of great value and importance; a costly investment with rich, eternal returns.  This value on raising children is shared by many cultures all over the world.

As parents, we have a profound opportunity to shape and influence our child's character, values, learning, and health, for life. There is much we can do to support and strengthen our children's health, starting from pre conception right through to young adults and beyond. Whilst there is much attention and publicity given to vaccination to prevent disease and improve health for our babies and children, very little emphasis is placed on other key ways that we can naturally assist a strong, robust and incredibly designed immune system, healthy neurological development, and optimal health in our babies as they grow.  Click here for my full newsletter...
